why is

this important

A humane living environment, along with support from our social workers, lawyers, and psychologists, are all essential components of recovery from the trauma and hardships of months or years spent on the streets. It is much easier for a homeless person to return to a normal life when they no longer have to worry every day about where to sleep or what to eat.

How it

works

A shelter is not just a roof over one’s head and a daily meal; it is also a rehabilitation center where people receive comprehensive support.

During their stay, lawyers and social workers at the shelter help those in need to restore their documents, find work and housing, reunite with relatives, secure a permanent place in a medical or social care facility, and regain their living space. The professional support provided by psychologists to shelter residents is an important part of their journey back to normal life.

PEOPLE ARE ADMITTED TO THE SHELTER

FOLLOWING A PERSONAL CONSULTATION WITH A SOCIAL WORKER AT THE NIGHT SHELTER

People stay at our shelter for anywhere from a couple of weeks to a year, depending on the complexity of each individual’s situation and the support plan we’ve developed together with them. On average, people spend 4–5 months at the shelter

THERE ARE TWO REQUIREMENTS FOR MOVING IN:

(1)

There is currently a vacancy at the shelter

(2)

We understand how we can help a homeless person and what goals we can work toward together
