why is

this important

One of the main complaints people have about the homeless is that they smell bad and their clothes are dirty. But people rarely stop to think that homeless people simply have nowhere to wash their clothes: not every Launderette will let a dirty person in, and besides, you have to pay for the service. However, a homeless person may not have any money, because they can’t get a job if they’re dirty.

How it

works

The Cultural Launderette is a joint project between Nochlezhka and the Prachka.Com chain of self-service laundromats. We opened it on November 22, 2016, and it is Russia’s first free laundromat for homeless people. It features eight sets of 5-kg washing machines and dryers, as well as one 9-kg washing machine for bulky items.

The Prachka.Com chain of self-service laundromats has covered the costs of renting the premises,

renovating and equipping them as a laundromat,

installing equipment, and paying for utilities and cleaning supplies.

WE ARE SUPPORTED ВY:

(1)

The laundry detergent is provided free of charge by P&G, and two of the nine commercial washing machines were donated by Electrolux

(2)

The laundry room was decorated free of charge by artist Ekaterina Khotsatskaya. Thanks to her artwork, visitors feel at home and can relax
